fingerless-gloves

Basic Knitting Class – April 30th, 2017

$65.00$195.00

Come to Alpacas of Troy’s farm to learn how to knit.  We are so excited to be offering this beginning knitting class where you will learn basic stitches, how to read patterns, and begin knitting finger-less gloves as your first useful project: all using alpaca yarn made at Alpacas of Troy.  You will also have a tour of the farm free with your class, and learn how we make our special yarn made 100% from alpacas raised here on the farm. This 3 hour workshop will provide participants with an overview of the milling process to create yarn from animal fiber, and will provide basic knitting skills for a solid start to life long knitting.

In this class you will learn yarn weights vs needle size, cast on, and the garter stitch. You will begin to knit finger-less gloves. As part of the class you will receive supplies for knitting: one set of size 9 straight needles  and one skein of yarn.

Class will cover casting on, knitting, casting off, basic pattern reading and gauge. You will get a simple pattern to follow based on your new skills. You will begin and potentially finish fingerl-less gloves to practice your new skills.

The workshop will be held outside so please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, and prepare for the elements.  If weather is too cold we will move inside.

As always, a visit to the alpacas in included in the fun.

She has been teaching fiber arts and heritage crafts for the past ten years and currently travels with her herbal medicine apothecary called Roaming Soul. You can find her at farmers markets across the Missouri/ Southern Illinois Region.
